The Inca were a tribe that had good in its heart more than the Maya and Aztec, they not only had a good heart but a good brain too!

- Their civilization arose in South America.
- The Inca tribe began as a small tribe
- The capital was Cuzco, which is now Peru.
- They were conquered by Pizarro in 1537.
GEOGRAPHY- Their land stretched from what is know Ecuador South to central Chile.
- Land traits include coastal deserts, snowy mountains, fertile valleys and thick forests.
ECONOMY- Policey of removing local leaders of the Incas conquered cities.
- Tax system called "mita".
- 12 million people lived in empire
- Government controlled economy
- Most Incas worked for government AND themselves
- In disasters government gave help and supplies
SOCIAL STRUCTURE- The people of the empire had very little freedom
- The government protected general welfare of all in empire
- Upper class included the emperor, government officials and priests
- Lower class included farmers, artisans and servants but they had NO slaves.
GOVERNMENT- No laws
- The government controlled the economy
- Pachacuti began a policy of removing local leaders of the Inca's conquered cities and replaced them with people he trusted.
- Made official language called Quechua, they used this language for all official business.
BELIEFS AND RELIGION- They thought rulers were related to the sun god and never really died.
